About my current job
I teach in an interdisciplinary department and do interdisciplinary research in developmental science. My department is incredibly collegial and collaborative and I continue to collaborate with researchers from all over, including Oxford. My research aims to connect developmental cognitive science with education to better understand teaching and learning, particularly in the early years.
Did you have a favourite tutor/lecturer/prof, and how did they inspire you?
Professor Gaia Scerif was the best supervisor I could have hoped for. She is a brilliant scientist and a caring, supportive mentor. Gaia was a role model to women in the department as she demonstrated it is possible to excel at research, teaching and parenting. The best advice she has given me includes that it is better to laugh than to worry, and that choosing a supportive partner who takes an equal role in childcare is one of the most important decisions you can make for your career.
How did friends made during your time at EP influence your life?
I have a group of female friends I made from my football team my first year at Oxford. We only spent one year together at Oxford, but have kept in touch even though we are scattered across the US, the UK and Canada. I regularly turn to these women for advice about my career and my personal life.
